Valentin Hauy, First School for Blind Founder

Valentin Hauy (1745-1822) established the first school for the blind in 1785 in Paris, which Louis Braille attended in 1819. Other schools for the blind followed his model. Portrait by Antoine Louis Francois Sergent dit Sergent-Marceau, after Marie-Genevieve Favart, 1789.
