Caption: Billboards in Times Square advertising Winston cigarettes and Gordon's gin, New York City, c. 1977. In the 1970s, regulations on cigarette and alcohol advertising were much looser. After the Federal Cigarette Labelling and Advertising Act passed, all cigarette packaging and advertisements had to carry health warnings from the Surgeon General. This Winston billboard from the 1970s has no health warnings on it.
