Corpos Luteum

Corporus luteum, a secretory structure formed at the site of a ruptured ovarian follicle after it has discharged its ovum. The corpus luteum synthesizes and secretes estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen plays a major role in the maintenance of the reproductive organs and the development of secondary sex characteristics. Progesterone plays a role in preparing and maintaining the uterus which supports the development of an embryo.
