Guy Fawkes, 1570 – 1606, aka Guido Fawkes, member of a group of provincial English Catholics who took part in The Gunpowder Plot of 1605, aka Gunpowder Treason Plot or the Jesuit Treason, a failed assassination attempt against King James I of England and VI of Scotland. The plot was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of England's Parliament on 5 November 1605. From The Century Edition of Cassell's History of England, published 1901.
