Canada:   November, 1969.The SS Manhattan, an oil tanker outfitted with an icebreaker bow, as she crossed the Northwest Passage in the Arctic. The ship is 1005 feet long, and its beam was increased form 132 feet to 148 feet by the addition of a protective "ice belt" to guard against hull penetration by the icebergs encountered on the expedition.
