Sir Francis Drake, (c.1540-1596) was an English privateer, navigator, naval pioneer and raider, politician, civil engineer, and boating enthusiast of the Elizabethan period. He was the first captain to completely circumnavigate the globe (Magellan did not live to finish his circumnavigation).
