Types of Incontinence in Female Anatomy

Illustration depicting three types of incontinence: (left to right overflow, stress, and urge. Overflow incontinence occurs in people who have a blockage of the bladder outlet (in this illustration, narrowing of the urethra). Stress incontinence occurs when pressure on the bladder increases due to the pelvic floor relaxing. Urge incontinence is characterized by oversensitivity of the bladder caused by infection or neurological disorders. The latter two types are the most common in women.
