India: Nana Sahib, independence fighter and hero of the anti-British 'Indian Mutiny' or Indian Rebellion of 1857

Nana Sahib, born 1824 born as Dhondu Pant, was an Indian leader during the anti-British rising of 1857. As the adopted son of the exiled Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao II, he sought to restore the Maratha confederacy and the Peshwa tradition. After the defeat of the uprising, Nana Sahib disappeared and his ultimate fate is not known.
