French officers d'Auvergne and Leperche, Battle of Rezonville (France-Prussian war of 1870). Oil on canvas (215x157 cm). . Former Christopher Forbes collection. Private collection. After the franco-prussian war of 1870, Detaille went on the battlefields and designed huge panoramas relating the battles. Those were shown in France, Austria and Germany in the years 1883-1895 with great success. The Panorama of Rezonville was separated in many pieces and auctioned in Paris in 1986.
