From the corpse of the mercurial ouroboros (the ancient symbol of a snake devouring its own tail), the three principles of sulfur, mercury, and salt are resurrected in full bloom. Alchemy was the pseudo-scientific predecessor of chemistry. Among other pursuits, alchemists searched for formulas that would turn base metals into gold. They sought wisdom and the secret to immortality.
