History of Spain. Third Carlist War (1872-1876). Defence of a convoy in Alpens (9 July 1873). Glorious death of the corps officer Vicente Reina Lopez. Alpens (province of Barcelona, Osona, Catalonia). The quartermaster Vicente Reina was on mission to defend a money cart convoy. His troops were surprised by Carlist forces superior in numbers. A firefight and hand-to-hand combat ensued. Vicente Reina, surrounded by the enemy, arrogantly challenged him with only his sabre. Meanwhile, his few soldiers, fighting with rifles.
