Lang: John Reginald Paget, permanent RAAF officer who, when he retired recently at the age of 37, was a wing-commander. When Sir B. S. B. Stevens had, in 1940, opposed Daniel Mulcahy, who still holds the seat, he had polled 15,000 against Mulcahy's 23,000. In 1943, William David Harris gained 16,000 votes, but Mulcahy got 41,000. Pretty depressing stuff for the wing-commander to ponder on in the evenings, at home in Penrith. May 17, 1946.
