Title: Lorenz Heister, German Anatomist and Botanist
Caption: Lorenz Heister (1683-1758) was a German anatomist, surgeon and botanist. Heister is credited for coining the word "tracheotomy", and was the first physician to perform a post-mortem section of appendicitis. His name is lent to the plant genus Heisteria, as well as to the Spiral valves of Heister, which are anatomical folds of the cystic duct. His botanical garden was considered one of the most beautiful in Germany.
