ARNOLD BÖCKLIN. "The Game of the Naiads" was painted by Arnold Böcklin (16 October 1827 – 16 January 1901).  He was a Swiss symbolist painter.  In Greek mythology, the Naiads were a type of water nymph (female spirit) who presided over fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks and other bodies of fresh water.
