The lid is connected to the body with a hinge and on the opposite side has a pierced snub which fits on the body between two eyes and can thus be closed with a pin. The lid is adorned with blue enamel ground, on which tendril ornament encloses four on the body, and on the lid three medallions of white enamel. The medallions show the letters IHS and the monogram XPS alternately. The bottom is connected to IHS ('Iesus Hominum Salvator') with cleats that are forged on the underside of the body, symbol of Christ, anonymous, Limoges, c. 1250 - c. 1275, copper (metal), gilding, h 11.0 cm × w 8.1 cm × d 6.7 cm d 6.6 cm.
