Scott-Hansen's observatory. Sigurd Scott-Hansen (1868-1937) was a Norwegian naval lieutenant, who was in charge of the astronomical and meteorological observations during Fridtjof Nansen's 1893-198 polar expeditions on the Fram. Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen (October 10,1861 - May 13, 1930) was a Norwegian explorer, scientist, diplomat, and humanitarian. He made many scientific cruises and contributed to the development of modern oceanographic equipment. He won international fame after reaching a record northern latitude of 86°14' during his North Pole expedition of 1893-96. No photographer credited, undated (cropped and cleaned).
