Jacobin Club Meeting

Meeting of the Jacobins, January 1792. During the French Revolution, rebels called Jacobins met to condemn the monarchy and anyone connected with it. Led by Mirabeau and initially moderate, the Jacobins became famous, after Mirabeau's death, for the Reign of Terror, in which thousands were exectued by guillotine. The caption to this illustration reads: "a large meeting of Jacobins, at which we see the great reaction produced by Minister Linote's declaration of war, coming on the heels of his recent tour.".
