HMS 'Iron Duke', British battleship, c1936-c1937. Launched in 1912, HMS 'Iron Duke' was named in honour of the Duke of Wellington. She was the flagship of Admiral Sir John Jellicoe at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. By the time of this photograph 'Iron Duke' had been disarmed under the terms of the 1930 London Naval Treaty and was serving as a gunnery training vessel. In the Second World War she served as a base ship at the naval base at Scapa Flow, Orkney. She was scrapped in Glasgow in 1948.
