A 16th Century Joseon Confucian Academy in North Korea: Soong-yang-seo-won

Sungyang Hall is a fourteenth-century Confucian academy located on the side of Mt. Janam in Kaesong, North Korea. It was built in 1573, in order to honor Jeong Mongjoo (1337-1392), was a prominent Korean scholar-official and diplomat during the late Koryeo period. Jeong Mong-ju was a Koryeo dynasty loyalist and was ultimately executed by Yi Bang-won as Yi's attempt to eliminate political opponents.
