Edward England (birth name Edward Seegar) was an African coast and Indian Ocean pirate captain. Born in Ireland, he made his way to Jamaica, became a mate on a sloop and was captured by the pirate Christopher Winter and forced to join the crew. He became quartermaster for pirate Charles Vane who gave him his own ship. He sailed to the west coast of Africa, where he plundered large numbers of slave ships. In 1720 he joined forces with pirate Oliver la Buse. Dissension among his crew led to a vote to depose him from command. He was marooned on Mauritius with two other crew members. They built a raft and made it to Madagascar, but he died shortly after. His flag was the classic Jolly Roger with a skull above two crossed thigh bones on a black background.
