Persimmon red glazed Ding bowl with white glazed interior, Song dynasty, China, 12th century. A very rare red Dingyao bowl of deep rounded shape. The inside has a yellowish white glaze of Ding colour, the outside and the base are covered with a reddish brown rust glaze (called by the Japanese 'persimmon') with slight black suffusions on the base and over the foot. The foot rim and lip are unglazed to reveal the closely grained white typical Ding body.
