Captain James Cook, HMS Endeavour,1768

HMS Endeavour was a British Royal Navy research vessel that James Cook commanded to Australia and New Zealand on his first voyage of discovery, 1768-71. The first voyage was a combined Royal Navy and Royal Society expedition to the south Pacific Ocean to observe the 1769 transit of Venus across the Sun, and to seek evidence of the postulated Terra Australis Incognita or "unknown southern land". Captain James Cook (November 7, 1728 - February 14, 1779) was an English explorer, navigator and cartographer in the Royal Navy.
