WILLIAM HAIGHT CHENEY. A black-and-white postcard featuring a photograph of Harriet Tubman, her husband Nelson Davis, and their adopted daughter Gertie. African-American anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman (c1820-1913) was born into slavery in Maryland. She escaped in 1849, became a leading Abolitionist and was active as a 'conductor' in the Underground Railroad, the network which helped escaped slaves to reach safety. Tubman stands on the left holding a round pan. The postcard was sent to Mariline Wilkins in Philadelphia, PA from Sedalia Gaines in 1992.
