Lithograph by Owen Jones of The Alhambra -1842-5. Owen Jones (15 February 1809 - 19 April 1874) was a British architect and decorative artist. The son of Owen Jones, a Welsh furrier and antiquary, he was born in London. After an apprenticeship of six years in an architect's office, he travelled for four years in Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and Spain, making a special study of the Alhambra. The Alhambra (Red Castle) is an ancient palace and fortress complex of the Moorish monarchs of Granada, in southern Spain (known as Al-Andalus when the fortress was constructed), occupying a hilly terrace on the south-eastern border of the city of Granada. ©TopFoto.
