Handkerchief of bobbin lace, drop shapes in the center and roses in the corners, Handkerchief of natural-colored bobbin lace: Valenciennes lace from Ghent. Square model with rounded corners, wavy shell edges. The pattern consists of a densely worked flower in the center, which is made up of four drop shapes between which four elongated heart shapes, each crowned by a small drop-shaped motif. From every large drop shape a large rose rises towards the corner point on a short stem with two leaves. The rose is crowned by branches with forget-me-nots and flanked on both sides by a smaller branch with a rose in the bud. A decorative band forms a three-lobed frame with zigzag lines and dots around the flower branches, which is adorned on the outside with a succession of leaves and ovals. The motifs are largely made in very densely worked linen with openwork edges and fine cut-outs like leaf veins. Some petals of the rose are made in net stroke. The motifs are connected by a square Valenciennes ground.
