Butterfly Badge. Artist: Pickford Robert Waller (British, London 1849-1930 Bournemouth). Dimensions: Sheet: 4 15/16 × 7 13/16 in. (12.5 × 19.8 cm). Subject: Relates to James McNeill Whistler (American, Lowell, Massachusetts 1834-1903 London). Date: 1875-1930. An admirer of James McNeill Whistler, the designer Waller here copies the latter's butterfly symbol transformed into a badge or pin. Inscriptions on a related drawing (1985.1165.181) indicate that the artist presented the ornament to Waller's wife at a private view to thank her for flowers.
