Gloeocapsa algae. Light micrograph of a living colony of Gloeocapsa sp., a type of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). They reproduce solely by fission, a form of asexual division in which two identical algae are produced. Some of the algae at far left are dividing this way. Differential interference contrast.
