Título:
The Oseberg, Viking Ship
The Oseberg ship is a well-preserved Viking ship discovered in a large burial mound at the Oseberg farm in Norway. The ship's interment into its burial mound dates from 834 AD, but parts of the ship date from around 800, and the ship itself is thought to be older. This ship is widely celebrated and has been called one of the finest finds to have survived the Viking Age. It was excavated in 1904-1905 by a team of Norwegian and Swedish archeologists. The ship is a clinker built karv ship built almost entirely of oak. Clinker built is a method of boat building where the edges of hull planks overlap, called a land or landing. In craft of any size planks are also joined end to end into a strake. The technique developed in northern Europe and was successfully used by the Vikings. The bow and stern of the ship are elaborately decorated with complex woodcarvings in the characteristic "gripping beast" style.
