The Duke of Württemberg gave the unique Kunstkammer piece as a wedding present in 1631. It was much more than just a toy to enliven the convivial drink. This marvel of mechanics rolled over the tabletop on hidden wheels and came to an automatic stop at the edge of the table. The courtly guest, in front of whom the wind-up turtle stopped, had to turn the spinning top in the winegrower's hand and follow the toast directed at him: Either drink a cup filled with wine or set the drinking game machine in motion again.
