Edgar the Peaceful, King of England

Edgar being rowed down the River Dee by eight Tributary Princes. Six kings in Britain, including the kings of Scotland and of Strathclyde, pledged their faith that they would be the king's liege-men on sea and land. Edgar the Peaceful (943 - July 8, 975) was a King of England (959 -975). As king, Edgar further consolidated the political unity achieved by his predecessors, with his reign being noted for its stability. The pinnacle of Edgar's reign was his coronation at Bath in 973, which was organized by Dunstan and forms the basis for the current coronation ceremony. Cassell's Illustrated History of England, 1865 (cropped and cleaned).
