Adolf Hitler visiting the occupied city of Paris, 1940. Artist: Unknown

Adolf Hitler visiting the occupied city of Paris, 1940. The two officers to the left of the Nazi leader are Colonel-General (later Field Marshal) Wilhelm Keitel and Colonel Hans Speidel. He survived the reprisals after the plot (the only one of the inner circle to do so) and became a senior general in NATO after the war.
