The mail contained letters to King George V, the Prince of Wales and the Late Lady Houston. On 3 April 1933 Scottish airmen Douglas Douglas-Hamilton, Marquis of Clydesdale, and Flight Lieutenant David McIntyre became the first aviators to fly over Mount Everest.
