Franz Winkelmeier, The Giant of Friedburg-Lengau

Franz Winkelmeier (April 27, 1860 - August 24, 1887) was the Giant of Friedburg-Lengau, at 7 feet 8 inches, one of the tallest humans during his time. Until the age of 14, his growth was normal. He made his first public appearance in 1881, and appeared in Lower Austria, Steiermark, Carinthia, Görz, Triest, Fiume, Hungaria and Siebenbürgen. In 1885 he was in Tyrol, and from September 1 - November 20 he was seen in the Concordia-Theater in Berlin. After appearing in more German cities, he went to Paris at the Folies Bergere theater. In 1886 he was hired by R. Rosingky to go to London. On June 22, 1887 he was presented to Queen Victoria. The famous doctor Rudolf Virchow confirmed his size.
