The Room of the Hundred Columns, Park Guell, Barcelona, Spain, 2007. Artist: Samuel Magal

The Room of the Hundred Columns, Park Guell, Barcelona, Spain, 2007. The Room oof the Hundred Columns - although in reality there are only 84 - was intended to house the market-place of the projected community. The columns, Doric in form, support tiny spherical cupolas on which the upper square stands. Park Guell is a garden complex with architectural elements designed by Antonio Gaudi. The park was built between the years 1900 and 1914 and was turned into a public park in 1923 after the original idea of Count Eusebi Guell to create a garden city following the English model did not prosper. The park is included in the 'Works of Gaudi' declared Word Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1984.
