The new lava, transitional in nature betwen pahoehoe and Aa lava is flowing over older phahoehoe flows and smooth pahoehoe surrounding the channel. Also note the vegetation near the lava flow. Seeds from this island of life (called a kipuka) will help the cooling land return to life.
