A Stockholm dispatch published in London today reports that general Andrei Alexandrovitch Zhdanov, one of Russia's most powerful and military figures, has been named by Joseph Stalin as his successor should the the Soviet Premier's illness continue. Zhdanov is shown (left) with Stalin. Gen. Zhdanov, who was Leningrad Military District Commander, opposed an anglorussian alliance in 1939. He is also said to have inspired the russian occupation of eastern Poland. He was once secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee and a member of the supreme Soviet Presidium, Russia's highest governing body. Anm.
