Oliver Evans

Oliver Evans (1755-1819) was an American inventor who pioneered the high pressure steam engine. Born in Newport, Delaware, Evans was an apprentice to a wheelwright by the age of 14. His first notable invention was a machine that made card teeth for carding wool. Evans made contributions to the textile industry, improved equipment for flour mills, created the Oruktor Amphibolos (Amphibious Digger), proposed mechanized stage coach lines and envisioned a network of railroad lines.
