Valved Ophicleide (Bombardon) in B-flat. Culture: Austrian. Dimensions: Height: 33 3/4 in. (85.7 cm) Diameter (Of bell): 8 1/8 in. (20.7cm). Maker: Franz Leibelt (Austrian, Rothan 1814-1856 Innsbruck). Date: 1855-60. Rotary valves following the model of Ferdinand Hell (1844). Leibelt's instrument is a blend of valved ophecleide and bombardon, both which were designed in 1835. Later, this model fused with euphoniums, tubas, and "small basses.".
