Rama breaks Siva's bow. Ramayana, Bala Kanda. Udaipur, 1712. Rama is able to lift the bow easily with one hand and, as if in sport, prepares it and draws it. Upon his bending the bow, it breaks in two with a sound resembling the crash of thunder or the hurling of Indra's thunderbolt. Celestials applaud and all beings, save the sage Visvamitra, King Janaka and the princes, are stunned by the reverberations of the sound and fall down in shock.
