Bartolomeu Portugues, Portuguese Buccaneer

Bartolomeu Portugues (c.1600s-1669) was a Portuguese buccaneer who attacked Spanish ships in the 1660s. He established one of the earliest sets of rules popularly known as 'the Pirate's Code,' later used by 18th-century pirates such as John Phillips, Edward Low, and Bartholomew Roberts.
