Two pages from a Chinese Muslim book written in Chinese but using Arabic script, known as Xiao'erjing writing.

Xiao'erjing or Xiao'erjin or Xiaor jin or in its shortened form, Xiaojing, is a form of writing Chinese in Arabic script. It is used on occasion by many ethnic minorities who adhere to the Islamic faith in China (mostly the Hui, but also the Dongxiang, and the Salar), and formerly by their Dungan descendants in Central Asia. Xiao'erjing is written from right to left, as with other writing systems based on the Arabic alphabet. (Photo by: Olga Zavyalova/Pictures From History/Universal Images Group via Getty Images).
