Lyncoya, Andrew Jackson's Adopted Creek Son

Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) had three adopted sons: Theodore, an Indian about whom little is known, Andrew Jackson Jr., his former nephew, and Lyncoya, a Creek Indian orphan adopted by Jackson after the Battle of Tallushatchee. Lyncoya died of tuberculosis on July 1, 1828, at the age of sixteen. He is shown here as an orphaned baby rescued by soldiers. The Battle of Tallasseehatchee was a battle fought during the War of 1812 and the Creek War on November 3, 1813, in Alabama between Native American Red Stick Creeks and United States dragoons.
