Portugal, Tomar, Convent of the Knights of Christ-Refectory

Tomar was founded in the 12th century as headquarters of the Knights Templar in Portugal (transferred in the 14th century to the Knights of the Order of Christ). The refectory in the convent is a work by Joao de Castilho, concluded between 1535-1536, according to the inscriptions on the pulpits. The current table arrangement dates from the Mission Seminary (1922-1992). There is also an ante-chamber connecting the dining room to the kitchen. The Templar Castle and the Convent of the Knights of Christ were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.
