Germany, Cologne, Cologne Cathedral, South Facade, Portal of St. Peter, Jamb Sculptures. Cologne Cathedral was built was built to house the relics of the Three Magi, under the direction of Archbishop Conrad von Hochstaden. Construction of the present Gothic church began in August 15th, 1248 and completed in 1880. In 1996, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO world heritage list of culturally important sites. Seen are the portal's jamb sculptures, depicting saints representing the gifts of the Holt Ghost. from left to right: Thomas of Aquinas- wisdom; Ursula- fear of the Lord and Albertus Magnus- counsel.
