UNKNOWN. Daitya King Bali pours water over the hands of Vamana

UNKNOWN. Daitya King Bali pours water over the hands of Vamana, his chhattra (parasol) wedged under his right arm. The king, sporting a bushy moustache, wears the courtly attire fashionable in mid nineteenth- century southern India: a dhoti and knee-length jacket, tied by a broad sash at the waist. On the right of the page is the towering figure of Vishnu as four-armed Trivikrama: his right leg is lifted to his shoulder and the left stands on Bali’s head. In his upper hands he carries the chakra (discus) and the shankha (conch), his lower right is in abhaya and his lower left in varada mudra.
