The ribs of the Transept under construction at the Great Exhibition building in Hyde Park, London, 1851. The 'Great Exhibition of the Works of the Industry of all Nations' was conceived by Prince Albert. Crystal Palace was built to house this exhibition and was the first large-scale prefabricated ferrovitreous (iron and glass) structure. It was designed by the landscape designer Joseph Paxton.
