Mdlle. Jetty Treffz, 1850. Creator: Unknown.

Mdlle. Jetty Treffz, 1850. Portrait of Austrian mezzo-soprano, Henrietta Treffz, first wife of Johann Strauss II. '...her many successes have made her name familiar in Germany and in this country...in addition to her musical abilities, [she] unites the advantages of a pretty and piquant expression of face, and a highly amiable character, attractive manner, and all the accomplishments which a thorough education can bestow...The Vienna revolution of 1848 drove Jetty Treffz, like so many other artistes, from her native country, and she came to this country. She made her debut before the classic audience of our Philharmonic Society, and made a decided impression, her mezzo-soprano organ being much admired, as well as her taste and simplicity, in Mozart's "Voi che sapete", which was encored. She had soon the honour of singing before her Majesty [Queen Victoria] at Buckingham Palace...'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
