Amphitheater of Tusculum, 1890s

Tusculum is a ruined Roman city in the Alban Hills, in the Latium region of Italy. Roman amphitheaters are large, circular or oval open-air venues with raised seating  built by the Ancient Romans. They were used for events such as gladiator combats, chariot races, venationes (animal slayings) and executions. About 230 Roman amphitheaters have been found across the area of the Roman Empire. Detroit Publishing Company circa 1890-1900.
