Frontispiece illustration to Oliver Goldsmith's "A History of the Earth and Animated Nature," 1774. A steep rock face in the sea, populated by a large number of animals, including narwhals, seals, seal lions, walruses, a polar bear, turtles, a mountain lion, a caribou, an elephant seal, a pelican, and black and white swans. A sea serpent, a whale, some unsuccessful whalers, and a waterspout can be seen in the distance. Colored etching by James Stewart and Robert Scott.
