Orig. bildtext... MONTY TROUBLED THE GERMANS Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery has been fined £10 with £5 costs for a traffic offence while driving in London. In a letter to his solicitor read out in court, Lord Montgomery said: I have been driving cars for 50 years. I drove various types of vehicles from Alamein to Berlin with no trouble to anyone - but the Germans. He was fined for driving carelessly and going the wrong way up a one way street. In a collision in the street his Daimler had hit a car driven by Mr. Robert Weldon who had never risen above the rank of guardsman in the Irish Guards. The police sergant who had taken particulars of the accident had served under him in Italy, and the prosecuting counsel had served under him in Germany. This picture shows Monty wearing the two badges in his beret which broke all the rules of uniform. The badge with the tank is that of the tank corps. Recently Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery, who played a major part in the defeat of the Germans from El Alamein into Germany, visited his famous Caravan Headquarters, used by the famous soldiers from the time he turned back the Africa corps at El Alamein in October 1942 and chased Rommel into Tunisia, until the landings in France and final battles in Germany.
